In December 2023, Neil the Seal reportedly visited the Tasmanian coastal communities near Hobart and Denali, which are located in the southeast of the island state of Tasmania. Scientists believe Neal has come ashore or been towed ashore for the annual molting season, this New York Times the report said.

Neil was moved from nearby Kingston Beach to a more secluded location earlier this year, according to an April 2023 press release from Tasmania’s Department of Natural Resources and Environment. No matter where they placed him, he would apparently find his way back.
