Well, here’s one way to teach your kids how nature works…
Everyone loves spending a day at the zoo as a family. You get to see some amazing animals that you may never see, and it’s a great way to teach your children about different species in nature. It’s all fun and games until the wild animals in the enclosure actually behave like wild animals.
Children in the grizzly bear exhibit viewing tank at the Seattle Zoo got a real-life experience yesterday of how the food chain works. A mother posted a video showing a flock of adorable ducks landing in a water feature in a bear enclosure. The children around the tank were filled with surprise when one of the grizzly bears showed interest in the family. But it’s not a “hey, look at those cute little ducks” interest; it’s a “oh, that looks like a delicious snack” interest.
The bear circled the water’s edge a few times, then jumped toward the mother duck and her ducklings. Poor thing didn’t stand a chance…
The bear easily catches one and pops it into its mouth as a snack. The ducklings swam away, hoping to escape, but they kept being plucked one by one by the bear. You heard the children scream in shock, and one of the little girls yelled:
“It’s just a baby! They’re dying, Mom!”
Yes, that’s life, kid…
At one point, I felt the bear saying, “Hey kids, look at this,” as she kept grabbing the baby in front of her. The woman filmed seemed to have a different perspective than other parents, noting that her children were not traumatized because they watched the Dave Attenborough documentary, and at least her children knew how the food chain worked.

Huge bear follows child down mountain
Imagine spending a beautiful day in the Italian countryside as a child, casually picking up pine cones with your dad and admiring the scenery, when suddenly a brown bear appears and starts a fierce staring contest with you.
I already knew that 12-year-old me would probably lose all self-control. But this kid is here? The definition of nerves of steel.
I’m not talking about the little bear. The Sons of Gun in this video are as big as they come. In this wild video, you can see a giant brown bear come face to face with the child, who then follows his father’s instructions and begins to slowly walk down the mountain.
But the bears are sure to follow. The bear didn’t look hostile, more curious about what the kid was holding, but I didn’t care. If a grizzly was following me, I wouldn’t take the chance.
It appears that everyone was able to survive the encounter without any harm, but one can only imagine how horrifying the footage would have ended if the child had come close to the creature. Interestingly, the title says “Grizzly Bear,” but it’s actually a Masica brown bear, one of the last known bear species in Italy.
